Born March 15, 1989, Mason waited "6 long years" before beginning his musical endeavors. At age 6, he began classical violin lessons and demonstrated a natural ability. Two years later, he was performing at recitals, socials and coffee shops. Mason enjoyed entertaining crowds. It wasn't long, though, before fiddle instinct started taking over. The family trips to Fiddler's Conventions and Bluegrass Festivals became opportunities for Mason to play bluegrass style fiddle.
Fiddle lessons and countless hours of practice would push Mason's ability to a level that surpassed his young age. By age 9, Mason began competing in contests and conventions, capturing top honors. Feature articles in newspapers and appearances on local cable television added to the fun.
Although Mason remains a student of advanced classical music and is a first violin in the Roanoke Youth Symphony Orchestra, he continues to grow and perfect his bluegrass style fiddling. Mason studies more accomplished fiddlers and will sometimes borrow some of their fiddle licks when putting together a rip snorting run on his fiddle. A few of Mason's favorite fiddlers are James Price, Hunter Berry and Stuart Duncan.
Bluegrass jamborees and Mason's fiddle have provided hours of fun for the whole family. It is no surprise that Mason's little sister Sage had to join in on the fun. Now, Mason teaches Sage his fiddle licks and has them both twin fiddling some of Bluegrass music's favorite songs.
